What are Accredited investors?

Accredited investor is an individual or a business group that is permissible to trade certain securities that may not be in the books of financial authorities and are not available for investment to general audience because of it’s volatile and high risk nature. So what is it that makes Accredited investors entitled to this special market privilege? The answer is really simple and obvious. Not everyone into investment world is an Accredited investor. Only Special business groups or individuals fulfilling the economic criteria and having valuable past experience in investment can be Accredited investors.

Conditions for being an accredited investor:

·         A person having an annual income of $200,000 for the past 2 years with the accounts showing similar or more expected income generation for the current year can be an Accredited investor.

·         In case an individual earns less than $200,000 but makes more than $300,000 when his/her spouse’s annual income is counted then he/she is also eligible to be an Accredited investor.

·         Having a net worth of a million dollars without counting the worth of their living address also makes you eligible to invest as an Accredited investor while for a business group, this number goes up to 5 million dollars.

These regulations have been put in place because accredited investors are often involved in high-risk investments. By regulating them government makes sure that only those individuals or business groups who are knowledgeable about these risks and are financially stable enough to recover from the resulting losses invest in them because otherwise it may affect the distribution of wealth.
